it depends. Magical girls are defined by their everyday life slowly crumbling as they get more into the job. Sakura card captor is the most "sucessful" of the serious ones and her life was a constany balacing act of triying not to look like a weirdo.
If you have red comics, its more or less like spider-man, where they should fail in one aspect or the other, and that failure makes them better
Adventurers are more or less defined by the setting. Unless its the chosen one party, they are expected to fail and either pay with their lives or become laughing stocks. If they pull through, it was a close fight or they got the drop. Mascots are rarely incompetent unless its played for laughs.
