For anyone looking to get into Fire Emblem: Similar to Final Fantasy, the games stories are generally self contained. Here are some suggestions for a first game

>Good picks
Fire Emblem GBA (FE7, Rekka no Ken). The first game released in the west, has a mandatory tutorial, cool sprite art.
FE9 Path of Radience (GC), Ike's game, fairly easy and one of the better stories

>OK picks
FE8 Sacred Stones (GBA), basically proto-Awakening. Actually pretty good but see below.
FE Awakening (3DS), a lot of newbies first FE game, has infinite grinding and is generally super easy, until you pick Lunatic and it becomes cancer. Is also the first game with an emphasis on self insert romance if that's your thing.

>Bad picks
Shadow Dragon (DS), Remake of Marth's game, come back to this later
FE Echoes (3DS), Remake of FE2, I personally like it but its gameplay is very different from most of the series
FE 4/5 Genealogy/Thracia, peak Kaga jank kino, has its own merits but it's obtuse as hell
FE6 Binding Blade (GBA), Roy's game, very bare bones and hard as a first game
FE10 Radiant Dawn, sequel to FE9, play it after that game
FE Fates (3DS), gameplay wise a step up from Awakening, Story wise it's absolute dogshit, has 2 main routes with the third true route being DLC and also horribly balanced.
FE 3 Houses, decent story and characters, has 4 routes to choose, it will take you forever to clear one because of the Persona shit in between each level.
