What gave me the idea is him being weirdly avoidant about his age, even moreso than the usual holo kayfabe, and the fact that he's conveniently the only survivor after all his friends died to corruption beasts with no details whatsoever on how he survived. The mask design is also similar to what the corruption beasts have on their bodies, despite none of his adventuring party wearing the masks before they all died, the only instance we see of one of his party members wearing one is when they're in the middle of being killed by one of the beasts, while that same party member wasn't wearing it earlier in the flashback.
