That's the thing. It's more so a cultural, tangible thing. How can you make it into some sort of magical ability? Earth bending?

That's sort of the point. I don't really see how we can work the existing lore to one where we are reliant on magic so the effect is more so a narrative device more than anything. Also gives the catalognauts telepathy powers.

Unfortunately I had to. Civilization as complex (how people usually think of the concept) can't... really be made into some kind of ability. How would that work? /who/ chuuabnite is like monoliths from 2001? A complex of culture, and religion is again tangible. Going back to the word civilis is the closet that I can do or think of to make an ability/phenomenon based around the concept.

Yeah. That's just the concept it represents. What's important is the ability.

That's the idea. Without specialized machines, the quality would be pretty bad. For example without something to focus the light onto the chuubanite the results would probably be more similar to silver-chloride photography.
