No need to return to replaying the Doom's original maps as is, there's tons of high quality custom maps produced over the decades. There's whole genres of different maps (vanilla-like, slaughter, gimmick, puzzle)

And I'll be honest, I think the map design in the original Doom and Doom 2 is super outdated. With experience, the level design in the modding sphere has progressed higher than what the id guys were able to make and test in the original games production.
