See, Japan and America have a tax treaty for this situation. No one should be paying more than the highest tax bracket that they fit in for their country of residence. You just file your taxes for both countries, and for the US, theoretically, you just claim Japanese Tax Credits on your US returns in the amount that you already paid Japan in taxes. That way, you "pay your taxes in both countries," but the US basically says "you paid Japan, you're good, no double taxation."
