It is a big part of what anons talk here sometimes about the difference in style between EN and JP.
EN "cringes" at the perspective of having to roleplay because they see their avatar as an extension of their own selves while the JP girls put the avatar on and become whatever character they're playing.

Subaru of course is a noob at the game, but she amped up her reactions for laughs and gigs.
Funnily enough, fleshstreamers in the EN market don't suffer from the same problem EN vtubers do. They definitely play a character 100% of the time, are loud, exaggerate their reactions and tbhe success of many of them (xqc, ishowspeed) comes from just that.
