Yeah, about rigging. Mixamo (knowledge supplied by Prii's tutorial) takes the mesh and autorigs the while thing, making the armature and parenting it and weight painting. It got a little fucky for the finger bones, in that it didn't do them, so I figured I'd try to replicate the bones, parenting, and weight painting from scratch before trying to actually change shit. But, on the linking-armature-to-mesh step, the "use automatic weights" just didn't do anything at all, even after rudimentary unfucking of the mesh (fixing normals, cleaning up duplicate vertices, killing loose shit off). So, gotta determine what the next step is after finishing the next revision of the mesh, be it actually making vertex groups for each bone, actually using seams and learning what they are, or whatever else. Not entirely surprised that this is hilariously complicated.
