It's only taxing because the streamers can't dissociate from their vtuber persona. They really want their fans to like them for them instead of just what they're selling. And it's not that parasocial relationships are taxing per se, romantic relationships will be taxing whether they're parasocial or not.

If someone is bad at actual relationships, they will be bad at parasocial relationships (which are much easier, let's be honest). This is the reason why someone like Vox can recoup even after a bunch of shit, because he's actually a good person.
