I think even if you can boil them down to petty stuff like that those vtubers all have their individual appeal that brings them fans.
Some members of Iluna(specifically Scarle, Kyo, Maria) have their own appeal, but it's not exactly mass appeal that would make them palatable to normalfags.

On the other hand the other half have basically nothing going for them. Aster's overly gay shtick is so annoying he filters anyone that would watch him for gameplay.
Ren has been around for a month and I still can't think of anything meaningful he's done or said besides doxxing Maria and inserting himself into collabs just to awkwardly laugh at other people's jokes.
Aia is a complete trainwreck but I wanna be nice to her since she's trying to get better unlike the other two.

Saying Iluna are bad hires isn't really some baseless attack, their immediate and massive recline despite being the most hyped wave in Nijisanji EN's history is fucking pathetic. It's not just a lack of marketing that killed them, they're just severely flawed at best and extremely unqualified at worst.
