From what I can piece together, as a child, she was a goofball who liked to joke around, girly and open. (This is still her true personality as we can observe in every single stream since debut - a dork who gets a kick out of making herself look silly. She's a natural born entertainer.) In school this part of her and admirations to become someone who makes people laugh were bullied out of her (in last chatting stream she said in response to SC something like "I'm glad you guys find me entertaining, making people happy/laugh is what I wanted to do before I had to give up on it"). So she went through a MCR phase and came out a tomboy on the other end, trying to act like a guy(or how she thinks a guy would act) - cool, stoic, not joking a lot, opposite of what she was.
So, she's a tomboy, but it's a result of bullying, not upbringing. She's(was, unlit 6 months ago) locked into this personality, but her memories about becoming like this are not good. Now, thanks to deadbeats constantly telling her how cute and girly she is, she's opening up and accepting the idea that being a cute goofbal is fine, she doesn't have to try to be cool and stoic, we'll love and accept her anyway.
This is just how I see it, not saying that it's exactly like this. The only way to know for sure is to hear from Mori herself. If only she visited those threads or something...

Fuck, I can relate.
Among friends always the funny guy, everyone laughed at my jokes and antics, soul of the party, always fun. I thought, "yeah, this is how I connect with people". Then I changed schools, and tried the same shit with people who didn't know me. It always worked great, right? And they laughed too, but it took me a year to realize they were laughing at me, not with me. They were bitter, mean, ill-intent, they only wanted to make fun of me, because I'm such a fucking funny dummy. So it turns out, I'm not the soul of the party, I'm just a clown, a butt of a joke, some idiot who they can ridicule and make fun of. My whole fucking identity was torn down and stepped on. So I shut down, stopped making any jokes, stopped talking with anyone. Now I'm a boring, bitter asshole, just like them, with no friends. What hurts the most is that I know a schoolmate who was like me, only he didn't go through this. And now he has a ton of friends, he has a cute wife, he didn't forget how to be open with others... and sometimes I catch myself thinking that he's just an idiot. It's like looking at myself from an alternate timeline, things could've been so much different.

So I was watching Mori's last SC video and around an hour in, she gets up to get a drink and a few seconds later, while she's clearly still standing far away, there's a loud breathing into the mic. No one mentioned it in the archives, but it caught my attention. Could just be some weird mic issue but you tell me.
