I dreamed I was in the weightroom doing my workout when Shu appeared in front of me, except he just looked like a short little asian guy. The room was dark and foreboding and Shu's face was an unwelcome sight, especially because his clear intention was confronting me over something.

It depends on the model of PS3. The old "phat" design is notorious for overheating even if it's well ventilated and none of the holes are clogged. The slim ps3 is much better in this regard but still prone to overheating if you don't regularly dust it. For both of these models, it's recommended to completely disassemble them and replace the thermal paste in order to ensure they don't die and get the dreaded yellow light of death.
The super slim ps3s don't have this problem though, they run nice and quiet and cool, only downside is you can't fully install custom firmware on any of these models.
tl;dr Nina will have to jury-rig a cooling solution to get her through MGS3 and MGS4, or open it up and clean it thoroughly (she won't), or buy the last model of ps3 that doesn't have overheating issues
