How exactly do the lorebook options on chub work, anyway?

There's the embedded lorebook option and then there's the Link a Lorebook option that reads:

Any number of linked books is allowed. They will be built into the card's embedded character book on V2 cards.

So... what's the difference? You can just download the card and use it blindly without doing anything else either way, right?
