Being in the sports team doesn't necessarily makes you popular.
I was in the Table Tennis and Badminton club (was even chosen to compete in the festival tournament regarding the former where I fumbled hard) and none of them gave me the push I needed to pursue it any further.

Cliques are for posers anyways.
What's more important is finding the group of close friends that would stick with you after all these years. I'm fortunate enough to have that, so hopefully, you also did.

Just because they rejected you doesn't mean they don't need you. It just means that you're needed elsewhere.
