Those creatures are examples of what is considered normal now. Civilization itself has become diseased to the point that it actively seeks to destroy all the living organisms within it. The good news is that such a civilization cannot sustain itself and therefore must collapse. The bad news is, contrary to the claims of the optimistic nationalists, this civilization is global and when it breaks down everyone on Earth will be deeply affected by it. It will be like the Bronze Age Collapse but on a global scale. However the world will keep on turning and the rain will eventually wash the ashes of modernity and it's deluded notions of "progress" away and we will start again.
