A lot of the names don't match up with english pronunciation because they're from other languages (like Byraria for example), so we'd probably anglicize them into more readable things.
Rihter sounds a lot like river I'm realizing, I kinda like that. I don't think I'll use it for the capital itself. I also don't know how Victory gets transformed into Rihter.
A lot of the names are quite long and don't really fit the simple naming style we're trying to go, the most egregious example being Pruliybebroug probably due to not being english originally, needs to be messed with.
I was planning on the current capital being the first city, with an inner push into the continent and an outer push to the coast in wars deciding current borders. I haven't written it down anywhere so it can be disregarded easily.

Olandia... sounds bad. The current official name is Owl Republic in respective languages so maybe it gets shortened to OwlRep, HibRep in french, FlinRes in russian, WaKyo in japanese or something. There's not really another republic in our part of the continent (or in the continent anywhere actually) So it getting shortened to just "Republic" made sense to me, we can always keep brainstorming for shortenings (just not "x-land" please).

>cusp of wide adoption of steam power
It depends on the relative technology level of the different nations. While the pre-established lore suggests that /who/ already has the technology to make marine steam engines, I can make it so that since there isn't really an arms race in Vitubia, /who/ doesn't have the incentive to build a lot of them and that "they have shown themselves to still be too expensive for mass production". There's also the factor that a lot of the innovation and such are pushed by the state and state-affiliated actors so it would take a while before the private sector catches up. I won't and don' want to make /who/ too op.
