The alternative history aspect is actually one of the things I like the most about Code Geass that a lot of people don't reallt pay much attention to. Not much generally well written Alt History into fantasy and or mecha/sci-fi. Knightmare Frames are sick. It definitely pushes the influence one person can have line like Dune but not as well written, say what you will, Paul Atriedes does what almost anyone who'd have the capability he has would do in his position and with his abilities, imo.

Some of the worst aspects of Code Geass are the geass user clashes but they are also some of the most memeworthy scenes and stuff like Lelouch's Geass evolving and creating the Yuffinator are both amazingly tragic and comedic. As a result, part of its charm IMO is that it isn't supremely well written otherwise it wouldn't have the same potential for memes. That being said the author had a manga series where knightmare frames didn't exist and I hated it... so maybe it would be kinda nice to see a mature CG take on the world aspects though, maybe the historical segments pre Lelouch & the Black Rebellion or maybe alternative timeline thing where the mystical aspects like Akasha/etc just don't exist.
