Something like that, basically a massive automated system that allow a whole spacefaring civilization’s infrastructure to be built without any human input. That might well be why everything goes south for the world since the people inhabiting the infrastructure has no idea how any of those works and were basically one societal breakdown away from going full Horizon Zero Dawn. Another idea I have’s that maybe the probe actually landed on a populated planet and proceed to pave over what the natives had because the builders didn’t know/care the place’s already populated
