I know almost nothing about ID culture, but I've started to wonder if the compounding cultural differences between the West and a country that's both SEA and overwhelmingly Muslim have been a factor in the unusual cultural attitudes we've seen in the "English" vtuber fandom. Apparently around 10% of Indonesians can speak English reasonably well, and a much larger percentage can still understand it. It would make sense for them get into vtubers through ID, but then engage with all of EN.
