To elaborate further, I think modern vtubers of the PC kind are doing an ancient job, but with a cutting edge aspect: they are courtesans of the mind.

I mean it with no disparaging intent: I love my favorites dearly.

But if you read about the relationships between ancient Roman young lads and their courtesans (I highly recommend Plautus' comedies, very entertaining) you will see that the same dynamics have been playing out for 2000 years or more.

Of course we don't get to physically copulate with them, which a good thing for everybody's health and safety. But everything else is right there.
