Actually the treacherous currents are the issue for exploring Atlantis. Portugal claims seabed around Azor islands for resources.

It's pretty shallow, 200-300 meters.

Atlanteans are just tall white blue-eyed dudes from Dolphin ridge (Azor islands). Portugal already claiming continental shelf around them for "mineral and other non-living resources on the seafloor". Aka the loot. Same with Russia and Arctic ocean (Hyperborea) which is equally shallow ~200 meters depth.

Azor islands are named after one of Poseidon' sons, he was a prince governing Atlantis northern province and today Azor islands are its highest peaks.

Atlantis was built upon long basalt ridge that bulged out from Atlantic ocean from tectonic cataclysm. It was extremely fertile and rich in minerals.

It can very well rise again one day only it would need tectonic cataclysm of magnitude that would left humanity no desire to marvel.
