Last year Ame didn't schedule calls and this was touted as the reason totsu tunout was so notoriously bad (if Reine hadn't called in despite being just one day out of collab ban and never having interacted with Ame prior, there would have been no call-ins at all iirc). Mori also completely forgot it was Ame's birthday, only tweeting her apologies for that the next day. Several times in the next few months, including on her own birthday stream, Mori made it clear she regretted that and wouldn't miss next year.
This year, Ame DID schedule some call-ins for the totsu, she had a discord waiting room and everything. Ina, Gura, Kiara, Fauna, Bae, and Mumei all turned up on schedule, but then Kiara had to jump back in a second and then a third call while Ame uncomfortably stalled for time, eventually discarding the EN-only schedule to allow Mel-senpai to call in as well.
Mori was one of the scheduled callers, along with another unspecified EN member (Sana, Kronii, or Irys), who didn't turn up.
Ame then did her unarchived karaoke portion, did the whole hour and a half, started saying her goodbyes and thank-yous, saw requests for an encore, remembered a song she wanted to sing, and sung it. Then as she was giving her goodbyes and thank-yous a second time - and was moments from ending stream - she said "oh, a discord call", picked up, and it was Mori. Mori said sorry and how awful she felt (prompting Ame to reassure her that it's okay), then said her alarms betrayed her and she had overslept, then delivered a quickly-written apology rap that was 50% Ame praise and 50% Mori self-deprecation.

It seems the main gripe is that anons consider it to be in particularly poor taste given how selflessly Ame puts her all into making big events happen for other ENs, and how her birthday was the one event of the year that was actually for her.

and I think that pretty well summarises why anons are mad. In truth the saner anons, including older deadbeats, are only disappointed; it's the "newbeats", underagers, shitposters, and schizos who are still mad and/or stirring the pot.
