It's like that with the first game too. DD's greatest aspect is its combat and that's about it because the world is boring, the side quests are fetch quests or escort quests, and everything looks dull while everyone says aught and naught. This is why Dark Arisen/BBI was such a big deal because it focused on combat encounters more than anything else and made the player do the part of the game that was enjoyable, which was fighting shit.
