and the reason for pycnofibers is because mumei is a humanoid who has a bird form, and not a bird who has a human form. therefore she would not have bird feathers in her natural state.
she would have pycnofibers which is similar to fur but evolved independently in pterosaurs which acted as a sort of fuzzy coat similar to bats. an example of convergent evolution
as mumei is more mammalian than bird, pycnofibers are more accurate as pterosaurs evolved much earlier than dinosaurs and birds. what I'm trying to say is "furry integument" is a more ancient trait and so closer to mammals than birds.
therefore, if she had anything down there it would be a bunch of individual strands of pycnofibers, which look like brown hair
