i'm not expecting him to do any full on studies because i agree that shits boring but doing a few 2 minute gesture drawings from life like pic rel (which are expected to be bad anyway) would help out his confidence in drawing full bodies immensely

using gradient maps and overlay layers are a quick+easy way to make your colors nicer. using a bunch of effects and weird brushes also helps to cover up a bad drawing but you can't run from fundies forever...
