You really don't need to understand it since there is no industrial application of OOP except for interfaces.
Being said that it's better to know the terminologies and vague concepts of OOP.
The most important programming skill is, IMO, writing test and testable codes.
Being a book smart and knowing advanced concepts of OOP or FP has nothing to do with developing software with production quality.
