I suppose having some sort of glowing stones would work, even if it has been done before. I probably should've mentioned I talking about /gem/. Been thinking of splitting up territory based on natural borders and available resources (each with an associated gemstone). [Dots signify larger settlements, red being surface and green subterranean.]

I didn't consider the possibility of fish farms underground. I figured that underground lakes would be still water and full of bacteria or contaminated in some other way.


As you can see the civilization isn't *entirely* underground, but I still want the majority to be. The surface would mostly be for international trade and part of the food production, I guess stuff like potatoes would still be decent for surface farms despite being near the equator thanks to the high altitude and maybe colder climate thanks to it?
