Make sure you've got the right option on to remove the blur on textures, it's not on by default.

Here's the comparison webm, although I'd recommend checking out the video in the link at it's native resolution so you can see it without compression:

Basically, the default setting of most goldsrc applications, including Half-Life, Sven Co-op, etc is in mipmap_nearest, which was important for saving performance by blurring the textures together. And on old resolutions of 640, it really didn't matter.
But it's been 20 years, our machines can handle mipmap_linear to see how the textures actually are. It's like rubbing the vasoline off your goggles.
