I'd actually be watching In any near conflict involving US and China, the US would never commit to any significant occupation of Mainland China. Both sides wouldn't see the value. Most likely there'd be a decisive naval engagement or two- Airstrikes at important naval targets until one side would gain air superiority to bomb with impunity, maybe an amphibious assault onto Taiwan depending on which side reacted fast enough, and then a relatively stagnant period of months or even years until one side yields some concessions and it's mostly status quo.
