Subs are important. It's the very first thing anyone looking at your channel sees.
Gura still to this day gets an absolutely absurd amount of collabs and sponsorships and opportunities, despite not streaming or caring for her channel much at all, just because she has a very marketable design and tons of subs to pull investors in.
Of course it's fairly unimportant when it comes to "generating revenue by streaming", but the random ojisans sitting on boards in random companies won't do a deep dive and study vTubing culture to decide on who they want for their sponsorship. What matters for them is the very first impression and past success.

They've got an insane opportunity in Hololive and want to make the most of it. That's good.
Yes, getting more popular goes hand in hand with streaming less. That's natural. Look at Marine for the absolute extreme of it where she has so many fucking projects constantly running she can't stream much at all anymore.

I think that schism between the fans about this stuff is unironically the age old western streamer vs idol culture bullshit.
A lot of people, especially the newer fans, are much more interested in FWMC being "there for them" than them "being there for FWMC".
That's exactly the difference in content creator culture. It's perfectly expected and glorified to make sacrifices time and time again to "push" your oshi forward and do anything to get them more success with little regard to yourself in idol culture, that sort of mindset doesn't exist much in the west. Here it's much more about what they do for (You), how they entertain (You), how often they stream for (You), and so on.
