It really doesn't matter to me what numbers she gets but what she does to get there. Her songs feel genuine to me and as has been pointed out already, she had some talent to back up her audition to build up momentum and fame after her debut. All the things you said about timing before are true but you don't capitalize on good timing without preparation.
