fuck off, i bet you didnt even watch kizuna ai. everyone wanted more vtubers before the hololive boom and every vtuber at the time were friends since the circle was small. even then they wanted this niche to become popular beyond kizuna ai and luna, a lot of anons back in the jp threads fucking celebrated the numbers because they actually want people to enjoy this niche with them. people were already clipping vtubers but everyone still treated it as "japan being weird" similar to those ronald mcdonald touhou MAD videos. its thanks to hololive that you get to enjoy vtubers right now since it managed to get into the mainstream online content, else it would've been dead in the waters or have been isolated in japan and treated as just another weird japanese thing.
