I certainly got a decent amount of engagement because people liked my rather unorthodox design. I think looking interesting will definitely garner more people around you than just looking good... Don't get me wrong, attractiveness is important, but if you're just another good-looking fish in the pond, it's gonna be hard to notice you. Be good-looking AND have a cool/interesting design.
