Left - 4x-UltraSharp, 0.5, 15 steps
Middle - Latent (bicubic antialiased), 0.66, 30 steps (ie. as if steps was left blank - this may be suboptimal, but it was how I always used the latent upscalers)
Right - giving 4x-UltraSharp the same 0.66/30 steps
Once you're past ~0.5 - the upscaler matters far less than you think - the point I was trying to make, lol. 4x-UltraSharp still gave her those extra tears, because latent didn't do that, the extra denoising strength did. The "charm" of using the ESRGAN upscalers, at least to me, IS being able to turn it down - you get to "keep" more of the original gen. But that's just like, my opinion, man. You do you. (*´ε`*)ﾁｭｯﾁｭ they're more useful on 3DPD btw. and creamypesto has more of AOM2's 3DPD mixed back into it - even if you don't see it in the gens. may also contribute to getting better results with it idk. meanwhile I mixed all the things that'd give me vibrant colors and thick lines together, haachama cooking style.
