GPT3 and successor LLMs generate human-like language using a very large neural network that was trained to predict the next word in a body of text, tuned using 50+ terabytes of text data. By appending its own output word by word to your prompt, it can generate results based on patterns that have been encoded into the neural network. The neural net powering the isn't big enough to encode even a fraction of the trained information so large amounts of its output is plausible-sounding garbage but at least it didn't spit out a Twitch URL after it wrote "stream", possibly because BingGPT associates ame+gura+VTubers+stream most strongly with YouTube.
