From the moment that Mio first called forth the first legion, the mood within Hololive Village was one of celebration. Of another year safely behind them, of anticipation of another year ahead of them, and most of all love, towards each other and towards those who came to listen to them sing. With various levels of skill and with varied types of songs, they continued one after another with only small hiccups well into the night.
When Suisei took the stage, the legion had grown to over 88k, and everyone thought them unbeatable today. Yet there were whispers from across the border, of similar celebrations from beyond the walls, and of potential invasions.

The first few had come in the middle part of the relay... their old rival Hoshikawa and Fubura's friend Fuwa-kun, as well as the SMC group, but they were no match for the ever growing legion even at that point. As more and more attacks were rebuffed, the girls finally started relaxing their shoulders. They had more than 25 positions secured on all fronts, and their victory for the day seems almost guaranteed.
None noticed how the shadows beyond changed shape every time the song "Mixed Nuts" was sung, nor how the darkness seemed agitated whenever "Kick Back" was sung.

Towards late night, when Aqua was granted the baton pass... it finally came.
It was a man walking on all fours, holding his long chin in front as a spear, with a small big-eyed Peanut sitting on top of him. They were aware of him, for they had clashed before, but the armies behind him... they were of a sort he was rarely able to gather.
His chin and his legions cut a swathe through their outposts, defeating every single one of their 25+ positions mere minutes after arriving, and secured their position on top for the day within the blink of an eye, before retreating into the night with a creepy wink.
The girls were frustrated of course, but there was also a grudging sort of respect. Defeats were not common for them, and they had confidently assumed that this day would be theirs. They had... slipped.

As Watame's soothing voice filled the air, and as Mio started closing the curtains to the event, they reflected upon their journey, and to whom they were fighting for. Resolve shone in their eyes, and they joined the final chorus as it swelled.
The legion was not big enough but it did not matter, for each one of them was composed of their fans, who had assembled to listen to THEM sing.
That, in the end, was what gave them the strength to fight another day.
