I don't believe this is really true, as long as the character is mostly sfw no one will care. I mean VShojo's JP branch just hired a loli character with a pretty slutty outfit. Even in the troon-infested VShojo fanbase no one bothered criticizing them over it.

imo Twitter is kind of a scapegoat, the real reason companies don't want loli characters is because sponsors themselves don't want to sponsor them. If you're a marketing employee for some major American game dev it's a bit of a hard sell to tell your superiors you wanna hire an anime girl that looks like pic related to promote your game.
