It's kind of poetic really. In Alan Moore's Watchmen, the character Jon Osterman is reborn as Doctor Manhattan who possesses a wide array of super powers. One such power is his ability to separate into multiple copies of himself, with each copy still being controlled by a single consciousness. To the unacquainted it might seem like multiple minds at work, but there is only one.
