I think the Nijisanji culture just never really caught on in the west. In Japanese vtuber fandom it's normal to only have one or two oshis and ignore the rest of the branch, and NijiJP waves break into cliques fairly fast so you can just call yourself a fan of a specific friend group. But NijiEN went so hard into UNITY that it's difficult to ignore people you dislike when they have a tendency to show up everywhere. Anons probably just got tired of the thread devolving into fighting when Enna and Kyo have yet another dramabait collab or Shu/Uki ruin yet another girls event by not reading the room. At what point do you stop engaging in the masochism that is being a NijiEN fan and accept that the good old days are dead and gone? Seems most anons from the good times moved to Phase or Idol or went back to watching Advent, because they all have had strong recent debuts this year. Meanwhile NijiEN's only debuts in 2023 were Krisis and they had zero hype. The debut format in general is also shit and doesn't seem to benefit the livers at all in the long run. Virtually everyone who debuted after Noctyx are 3views right out of the gate and it makes it unappealing to apply for Nijisanji as an indie. That just guarantees they'll only get sexpests auditioning in future waves, as the quality of the branch's content declines so too does the quality of future debuts. As someone that's been around since Lazulight's pre-debut days I just feel genuine resentment towards both the branch, the management, and the fans for how they ruined such a good thing.
