The thing is, many if not most vtubers care about multiple metrics of success at the same time. Consider that less than two weeks ago, she was the runt not just of ReGLOSS, but of all of Hololive, literally the least subscribed female talent in the whole organization. Now, even in the midst of all this controversy, she's gained 21,000 subs in 11 days. Even if I completely grant your argument that the the subs she's gaining from VCR and shorts will never buy merch and eventually leave, most of them will never unsubscribe, and even dead subs are useful for sub count. And like it or not, sub count opens doors CCV or revenue do not, because what it gets you is potential corporate attention. I happen not to think she meant to or wanted to alienate any of her audience, but even if I were to take the cynical perspective that it was intentional, that could still be completely rational, because if she continued the way she had been going she'd still have been at the bottom of the heap.
