Report on Deadbeat LABEE, Entry #2, 1123

Our initial meeting with the deadbeats has gone well. There were some concerns that we had prepared too much blackberry wine and chocolates, but as the night went on it became clear we had not prepared enough. Sir Cinnama was a little upset such fine Luknight vintage was being 'wantonly guzzled' instead of 'properly savored', but he understood it might be a cultural difference. Nevertheless, the Deadbeats were all highly satisfied with his team's creations. The pumpkin pie, with cinnamon freshly bought from local Teamate traders, was a unexpected favorite. For some reason, 4 particular Deadbeats (I believe one of them was named Lucia) insisted on remaining sober, but did eat some of the food. Peculiar, but I don't sense malice from her.

Early on, I could see Marsh, Endus, and Niwa immediately hit it off, each passionate about the nature of schizos and their wastes. Endus and Niwa were in particular eager to learn about a schizo chieftain well known to Kingdom; his tribe are obsessed with capturing Luknights and citizens of /aqua/, then making them endure cruel contests to determine which goddess is, as he has been quoted, "dumber". I do not understand this (Himesama is obviously the wiser), but alas, trying to understand schizos is fool's errand unless you dedicate your life as those three. One of the non-drinking Deadbeats briefly scolded Endus and Niwa for not knowing of this particular schizo, but they brushed it off.

As the night went on, I ventured with warrior Luknights and Deadbeats out on the town. Many of them went on an impromptu pub crawl as the wine supplies of the Lady Hime got low, but some, including Gaia and Shige, visited the famous Nadex night markets, where outsiders can buy souvenirs, and locals can buy foreign goods designed to appeal to Luknight tastes. Many Deadbeats were surprised at how sweet the 'authentic' KFP fried chicken ended up being. To a Luknight, such tastes are quite mild, nanora...

Tomorrow morning, we board the riverboat and ride towards Chunora. It is far more of agricultural village than the bustling Nadex, but has a hospitable community. There is even a group of Lubeats there, which would be glad to help the Deadbeats interested in the Candy Kingdom learn about our way of life.

Your home is generous and welcoming, Himesama, I am loyal to you always.

Luknight here:

I'm sorry we've been AWOL the last few weeks, but I got caught up in my finals (for my Himeology Master's), but I'm ready to write more lore, nanora.

Any requests for expedition fiction or Luknight lore details?

Luknight Lore: The nature of Himesama >>22935204

Luna-hime is divine being that watches over Candy Kingdom, but also exists in physical form as the kingdom's monarch. Every 100 years, a Luknight couple gives birth to a baby with pink hair (not that uncommon in the kingdom) and heterochromatic, pink green eyes (exclusive to Himesama). This baby will quickly mature (over 2 months) into a new Himesama, seemingly born with the knowledge and tastes of Luna. They will stay in their form for the rest of their life, as the forever 0-year old princess, and rule from the castle, though only when she wishes. As 100 years approaches, the strength of her mortal Luman vessel will give out, and Luna-hime will announce a 'Grand Nap', where she will lie down and leave her body. This will cause it to rapidly age, and then dissolve into sugar (Eating this sugar is forbidden, it is used exclusively for embalming dead Council Knights of high esteem). So begins the centennial "Bitter Times", a half year period where Luknights wait for their princess's reincarnation, and for the cycle to restart.

Historical periods in Candy Kingdom are often named after the family that gave birth to the Hime vessel that reigned. Strangely, it doesn't seem that Hime 'takes over' an existing baby to incarnate in our world; a handful of cases of immaculate Luna conception exist. The mother of the Hime vessel is often revered, and allowed to live in a separate estate in Nanonanora, the Capital City.

Right now, the current Himesama vessel is 80 years into her reign. At this period, Council Knights are discussing what the era monument will be, and where in the kingdom it will be placed.

Rituals in the life of Candy Kingdom subjects:
>At birth, Candy Kingdom babies receive a 'Hajime no chu' from a scepter with marble lips wielded by a Luknight Bishop, with Hime-sama herself having kissed the first of these scepters, and her first kiss then 'copied' to other scepters by touching the lips.

>At age 13, citizens become Lusquires, and receive basic knight training. Some stop there, others continue.

>At age 18, Lusquires take a royal examination in their trade of choice, and if they pass, receive Luknighthood. If they fail, they are allowed to retake the exam each year, though some simply go into the field without it, becoming 'Luneets'.

>Luknights who work in the royal military receive more on the job training throughout their career, studying the path of Lu-Chivalry.

>When a Luknight gets too old and must retire, they customarily receive a kiss on their armor from Himesama. When a Candy Kingdom citizen dies, the customarily are embalmed with sugar and buried in the mountains or at sea. Friends and family are asked to shout "NAAAAA" as long they can while the body is lowered.
