Hiding the whale art was a smart move as it does indeed "give too much away". The primary artwork (along with the premiere stream thumbnail) is much more intriguing with the possibility that it could be a dark/dour song, then revealing that it's quite the opposite. That doesn't work when you present the whale right up front.
