Well on the bright side, your wife was considerate of your feelings and gave your story a try! Some relationships might struggle when it comes to one side showing the other things their own creative mind came up with, it's kinda a window into the soul that some are not ready to, or don't want to see. Even though you might feel that she went easy on you, it's a big deal that you felt comfortable to share it with her.
I did not change the names in the story I showed my own wife. She made fun of Watame's name for being too japanese. I held my tongue. She also keeps forgetting to send me the feedback she had for me. This summer I have a goal to pester her more.

I may have bad news for you anon. While I do plan to have Polka do that at some point it's also part of HoloJourneys. So either good luck getting through the monster of a story I've already created so far, or power to you to say fuck me, and fuck all that. There will also be overdue talks of how Polka's specific brand of intimacy works, ear rubbing, tail brushing, mutual reassurance in one another and tasteful swimwear. Maybe Polka will get a tan? Who knows?

For whatever it's worth, I feel like the publishing game is much like other professional spaces; a lot of being in the right place at the right time. Also like with all types of media creation, things like advertising, word of mouth, and no shortage of luck play into it too. You could have a winning formula in whatever you create, but circumstances can just make it go unnoticed by the masses. It sucks, but that's how it goes sometimes. I've never really released or made anything besides my own fic, so I can't really come up with any good advice specific to marketing or handling the reception on a commercial level, but what I can say is that if what you created brings YOU joy, that kinda makes it worth it. Regardless of what becomes of it, you made it, and now it's etched into history, and I think that is something to be proud of. If having the kind of success that puts food on the table is one you aspire for, I can say nothing else but to keep trying. I perused a lot of published books yesterday, and a good chunk of them were kinda mid in both premise and prose, so that can hopefully bring you some hope that it really can be a numbers game. You can also think about it like this, if you were picked up for that first book, that might have taken your attention away from, or not given you the things in your life you were meant to experience in order for you to end up creating the thing you are truly destined to make. Life works in mysterious ways sometimes, but fortune will favor the tenacious and pure hearted, so keep shooting past the clouds and you'll unmask the sun.

As someone who struggled hard on coming up with names at first, I would suggest to let the climate, environment, or the planned culture guide your naming schemes. Think about who lives there, what their roots might be, or even the history. From there you can try just throwing random made up words at the wall of your mind and see what sticks.

My Girlfriend Polka is a cute story with some smut in it. A Down Day With Low Pressure Polka. HoloFantasy may not always be super sweet when to comes to the fennec, but it's got some good payoffs. I'll also just shill my own stuff since I tend to put in some fluff with Polka almost every other chapter.
