And the thing that makes it work for the JP girls is that they use it, in a very self referential and recursive way, as a virtual world where they can pretend they’re animated characters behind an avatar (heh).
In a sense, in Minecraft, they become VVtubers: virtual virtual YouTubers.

Here is an example of a small interaction but that gets people hooked on the concept

For this “season” of Minecraft Okayu is roleplaying as a lazy catgirl that doesn’t want to work, farm or do anything and only either mooch or outright steal.
Mio, on the other hand, is playing the role of her warden, trying to keep her in the “straight and narrow”, telling other girls not to pamper Okayu and forcing her to take “baitos” working for her and other girls for food, shelter and whatnot.
That’s a silly example but it turns the server into a second level deep of the “anime avatar” experience.
They’re not only aren’t their “Not”selves to take on an anime avatar, even their anime avatars have a (pixelated) anime avatar to do things they wouldn’t otherwise.

People gave Mori some grief for her sheriff roleplay on RUST but she was 100% right and her only flaw was to do so in a very very VERY cringe way because that’s exactly what’s expected of the Holo girls when playing in the “sandbox”: to put on a character and run with it.
Fauna, Mumei and Bae figured that out in the start of the new server, when they refused “insurance” from Kaela and decided to start from zero. Out of the three, Fauna is the one taking the server straight and building something big to leave her mark.

I hope the rest of the EN girls figure that out too.
There is an enormous potential in being part of the shared server and it doesn’t even need to be with real time interactions, most of the times the girls are interacting through sign posts and through their chat ratting them out.
