You like Teletubbies? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when series 3 came out in '99, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole season has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the skits a big boost. They've been compared to Barney, but I think The Tubbies have a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In 2000, Tinky Winky released this; Tubby Custard!, his most accomplished episode. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Tubby". An ep so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the tubbies themselves.
