/vt/ - Virtual Youtubers

I backread through the last thread and I was sad to see that I missed a really important yume conversation… it always makes me sad to hear that people feel embarrassed to be a yume particularly in vtuber fan spaces since the word “parasocial” is thrown around like a straight-up slur since nobody knows what it means anymore. To me it sometimes feels like other people believe that being into shipping is just the default role anyone in a fandom has and they shipping is so supposedly integral to the fandom experience that not participating in it makes you look weird or something. I wish people didn’t feel like they had to write/draw/create in general just for the sake of noombers and interaction because being popular =/= being good, some of the most poorly written fics I’ve ever read had hundreds or thousands of interactions and only got to that point because they were tagged with a gazillion different tags and therefore simply caught the algorithm better. Doesn’t make them good. Anyways, my point is that I think creating for yourself is the most fun of all and having this sort of “the content I want doesn’t exist? I’m gonna make it myself and it’ll be so fucking awesome and that’s what matters” because creating something for yourself is amazing. The most fun I’ve ever had through all my years writing was when I got like 5 likes a post and wrote for the tiniest of audiences just because I knew I was writing stuff that made me happy and because there’s always somebody—at least a single person— who enjoys what you do so you’re never truly alone. Tl;dr I wish people didn’t feel so bad about preferring selfship content over canon ship content and fuck noombers
