But there's this thing called the Loudness War that was (mostly) brought on by the advent of digital music, starting with CDs, where many mixers are endlessly trying to out-loud each other. The louder music sounds, the more exciting your brain initially perceives it to be. This can be considered desirable in some contexts and genres, because some music should be loud. The issue is that music shouldn't always be at max volume, and details are lost by trying to force it to be. Imagine if there were no quiet notes in Fur Elise.

Worse yet, the mixing methods used to maximize loudness are often applied so overzealously that the audio signal is actually distorted, and tons of detail is lost. Audio signals are displayed like in this image >>54490482 and the taller the signal is vertically, the louder it is at that moment. You can see that there are quiet moments in that song, but it's mostly very loud. A song that has been completely butchered by the Loudness War will be an almost completely solid wall, or look like a "brick," as Hakka mentioned.

In music, Dynamics are how loud it is, and Dynamic Range is the how quiet vs loud a song can be. So when he's talking about "not having dynamics in this house," or however he phrased it, and wanting bricks, he's shitposting about intentionally making loud as fuck music, even at the expense of fine detail. Considering he's into metal, he definitely wants loudness, but he's ironically advocating for it to an excessive degree.

The verses and bridge are so damn clean but the "chorus" is beyond boring. Utterly empty. What the fuck is this? I was impressed by his vocal improvements, though.

Also, the very premise of the song disagrees with the idea that he invented Copium.

Producer and vocalist here. I had never heard of the original song, I am barely aware of Sinder, and I dislike both the genre of the original AND the genre of this cover. So I'm unbiased, I guess.

Because I didn't have the context of the original song, Sinder's cover just felt like a low-ish effort shitpost to me. It's pretty bad, but it's not the agony that people are making it out to be. Numi's cover is only a few steps up in terms of rapping skill. However, I think people are shitting on Sinder's so much more because she tried to make it metal (probably just because she likes metal, and to be different) without an understanding of what that would entail, or whether it could even work from a purely technical standpoint. And as >>43707059 implied, the fans of these genres are particularly opinionated about their preferred genres.

As far as I know, Sinder is not any kind of musician. She no doubt paid some Twitter/Fiverr guitarist/producer to make "a CPR instrumental track but metal," and they did it, because the client's taste doesn't matter in such a transaction. The track is boring as shit, but what the fuck can a producer even do with a request like that unless you magically get hit by inspiration in the moment? Although, having now also listened to the original song, I can honestly say that I would still rather listen to Sinder's in spite of its many shortcomings, and in spite of me not even liking djent. But this is purely because I hate the sound of the original vocalist so much, even if she does exhibit much greater technical skill, that I think Sinder's voice is preferable.

This cover is about the caliber of what Nyanners put out way back in the day. Nice voice, but nearly zero singing skill. That said, Nyanners did get better, so maybe Sinder can too. Slight tangent, but why are Sinder, Numi, and so many vtubers who have been in the game for a long time still absolutely fucking incapable of singing on beat and with strong diction? This is one of the most obvious things to fix, and in my opinion, one of the easiest. I don't think most ENs ever seriously try to get better at singing.

It feels to me like a bunch of vtubers (girls in particular) think that just because some girls managed to get into Hololive with no singing skill that they can just wing it, and still be loved. And that people will still have fun. And that they'll eventually get better. But the reality is that all of those Hololive girls are regularly taking lessons and practicing. A lot of it comes down to presentation. Female privileges take a massive debuff in the context of music, and a girl CANNOT be cocky while making music poorly unless for comedic effect. The likes of Ame and Pippa singing poorly were appreciated in spite of their vocal quality because they knew they weren't very good, but were trying to get better. Girls being bad at something but still trying their best registers as cute in the human brain, which is why there's an entire anime genre built around it. But Sinder, who probably also knows that she's not a good singer, unintentionally came off as pretentious because she implied competence by taking major creative liberties with the song that she had no business taking.

Also, Numi's persona is perfect for being the butt of self-deprecating and ironic humor. I don't know how much that applies to Sinder, but it's key to how well you can get away with a song like this without actually acing it.

tl;dr, the song is weak as shit, in large part due to her vocals, but the main reasons she's getting buried so hard are somewhat secondary production mistakes that have nothing to do with her singing that she probably didn't know she was making, because she's not a musician, she's just some fucking girl who's singing for fun. Someone more knowledgeable should have stopped her, but it's likely that nobody around her saw it coming either, or she just didn't show anyone else until it was released because she wanted it to be a surprise. Whatever the case, I feel bad for her and hope she doesn't let this stop her from improving.
