What's up everyone. Update time.

After some introspection, I've decided on several more QoL changes to the game. The regen timer has been decreased from 5 to 3 seconds. This way, the focus is still on avoiding hits but you will not be a victim of terminal boredom if you mess up.

The Kronii bossfight has become more of a glasscannon, and her HP has been reduced to 2/3 of what it was. I confess I've found that bossfight an aggravating challenge myself, and I've been playing this game for a long time now. I actually want people beyond myself and some members of the team to finish this, and the overlap between people interested in Mumei and challenging platformers isn't hat big to begin with. So the last stretch of the game is going to be a bit less conducive to aneurysms.

The secret-ish level has been completed and linked to the game. It's not that hard to find, but you'll need to pay a bit of attention to cues in the section of the game after the Ollie bossfight.

I've found a few people I've commissioned props for. I'm still waiting on their work, but it should clear out some of the ugliest pieces of "art" that are in the game which could be a lot better.

I need to figure out a better use for the berries than just regen which will make sense for what already is in the game.

Did you know I made a blood pact with Susan? Oh yeah, we have a Youtube channel now if you didn't know. I'll work on a trailer soon, which is something I've been meaning to work on for a while but honestly.. this is my vacation week and my head's been craving nothing but lounging around.

That's pretty much it. I'll keep working on this for as long as I'm invested and having some fun with it. Some people write fanfiction, some people draw. I cobble together a scuffy game piece by piece with whomever I drag into it.

Aight enough about dramafaggotry, time for a chipper update since cynical updates are passé and dry updates are just fucking miserable to read.

We're revamping the fuck outta that shoddy jumping system we had that broke keyboards and minds and made you hooties' wittle paws hurt when you were tugging at your cloacas. Jokes aside, it was something I just implemented and ran with it all this time and fell into an elitist trap of "filtering" and "git gud" which ultimately hurt the game.

The new system is based on timing your double jump at the right moment to achieve maximum jump height. As shown here: https://streamable.com/wuzruc

We're doing a LOT of polishing this week, which we simply didn't have time for during the "beta". But hey, everything's an alpha pre-release sold on Steam for full price anyway nowadays, so fuck it!

That's all. Go play it and see if it's better! Stop tearing at scabs...

Did I mention dowloadables are back? Well downloadables are back.

Hey, just a quick update without the usual cynical dev affectation, right now I don't care to do it for reasons.

The windows version is back up, since the recent build has not triggered any false positives. You can play it if you really hate the BGM stuttering, which I don't blame you for. I'll be keeping track of versioning through the zip files.

I would be lying if I didn't have a peak of hope followed by a big crash last night, but it was to be expected as the game is in a frankly raw state right now. I will have the week off to work on stuff I should've worked on.

Not taking up a lot of time on a birthday stream is no big deal, and I had realized that this was a fool's errand a while back and made peace with turning this into a background noise game a while ago.

Thank you for the supportive messages a few threads ago. Sometimes you hooties aren't so bad. I'll work on the jump mechanics a bit tonight, but it's likely the team will work together to cobble up a better alternative than what we have now, which apparently is filtering a bit too hard.

Hey. Some quick updates.

I added a tutorial level since enough people have complained about how hard the game is to play. I can guarantee you the keys are perfect and you would not want to play this game with some Z X combo that wouldn't be ergonomic in the least.

The latest builds have been sporadically triggering Windows Defender's trojan detection. This is an issue to do with Godot and has nothing to do with the state of the codebase: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/45563

If you DL'd the game at any point, don't worry. It's a false positive. In any case, until I figure out what can be done to avoid this I'm putting the download version on hold.

Happy Birthday Mumei, who is never /here/. I turned a lot of work days into 12 hour shifts to get this done, but nothing good ever came out of half-assing things. It's a literal dream come true to have made this, regardless of scuff or size and regardless of how rocky the road was at times.

Hello, friends and foes.

If you've been touring around /who/, you may have notice there was a Mumei-centric platformer being developed as an initiative started within the board

Well, that game is Mumei's Birthday Adventure and it has been officially released.

After some last minute bug fixes, the game is now playable from start to finish, polished as much as we could in our spare time.

I'm going to take a rest from working on this every day, barring fixing pressing issues and doing shilling work, at least until the weekend passes and I get my week off from work to start focusing on other stuff. The code could use a clean-up to make content expansion (that means creating new levels) a more streamlined process.

This was very much phase one of this game, and it will be worked on at the very least as a hobby for some time which is between Mumei graduating and moving on to bigger and better things, and me losing interest in this. The end goal is to make people have an easy time contributing content, but that's a distant end goal which I won't actively pursue for the moment. Right now the game will be expanded with the people who show interest in it and if things keep heading in the direction that interested parties with big ideas and extreme discomfort using game engines would enjoy contributing, then that is what we'll focus on.

Right now though, you can still enjoy the game for what it is!

Due to some last minute issues, I've shelved the Windows download until further notice. Please use Firefox as Godot sound has a stutter issue using Chromium web browsers.

I shouldn't have blogposted so hard, because now I don't have a lot to say do I?
