This anon is kinda right. You can tell by how the monster reacts but tiredness isn't tied to hp, as you can use exhaust mechanics to accelerate or decelerate a monster's tiredness. Exhaust phials, blunt head attacks and some skills affect this. A tired monster will drool to indicate it's state, and after fighting you for a bit in this state it will attempt to find food to recover. If it enrages it will tire itself out faster. If a monster is very weak it will always retreat, and if it's close to dying it will attempt to sleep to recover some health but it usually doesn't heal much from this and leaves itself open to a wake up attack or being captured without any hassles.
