That's part of it. Oshio originally intended for Kanata to be a "B, close to A," but after meeting her IRL she changed it to "A, close to B." Later on she decided that Kanata was in fact completely flat, out of pure sadism. Picrel is a rare oshio sketch from the time she still envisioned Kanata as a B.
